The Women's Headshot Attire Guide
When it comes to business headshots, there’s a lot to consider—posing, lighting, angles... but one of the most common questions I get is:
“What should I wear?”
It’s a great question because what you wear does impact the final image. But here’s the good news, you don’t need a closet overhaul. Here are some quick tips to help you make great choices for your next headshot session.
1. Stick to Clean, Classic Pieces
You don’t have to be boring—but you do want your clothing to support your face, not distract from it. Think tailored blouses, well-fitted blazers, and soft knits in solid colors.
2. Choose Colors That Compliment Your Skin Tone
If you have no idea what looks best—go for neutral or jewel tones like navy, forest green, burgundy, or soft cream. These colors almost always flatter and photograph beautifully.
Pro tip: Avoid stark white unless it’s layered under a jacket. It can blow out the lighting and steal the show.
3. Simple Jewelry = Confident You
Most times I suggest no jewelry. However, sometimes a small pair of studs or a single necklace can elevate your look while chunky, layered accessories might pull the attention away from you.
If you usually wear statement pieces, bring them! We can photograph both versions and you can choose what feels right.
4. Mind the Neckline
Crew and V-neck tops tend to photograph beautifully and help frame the face. High turtlenecks can sometimes feel too closed-off unless styled with intention.
Ask yourself: “Does this shape draw the eye toward my face?”
5. Makeup: Just a Polished Version of You
No need to glam it up. A light touch of makeup that evens skin tone and enhances features goes a long way in helping you feel confident and camera-ready.
In the End, It’s About You
The point of a headshot isn’t to show off your wardrobe. It’s to show off you—your warmth, professionalism, and presence. Keeping it simple allows your face, your personality, and your confidence to shine.
